The hotel has an impressive entrance and lobby with breathtaking views of Lake Toya. The buffet meals were surprisingly good and filling, and the onsen spa was a highlight of our stay. However, the rooms were quite dated and in need of renovation, with issues like lumpy mattresses and cigarette smells lingering in the air, which detracted from the overall experience.

The rooms were quite dated, and the mattresses were lumpy, making it uncomfortable to sleep. We had to make do by spreading comforters over the tatami deck.

Service was adequate, but some staff interactions could be improved. There were issues with room requests that were not properly communicated.

Toya Sunpalace was a delightful stop on our Hokkaido trip. The views of Lake Toya were simply stunning from the lobby and our room, and the buffet dining was a highlight with a tremendous variety. However, I must mention the unfortunate experience with the smoking rooms, which was quite off-putting. Despite this, the onsen was a standout feature, making the stay enjoyable overall.

Toya Sun Resort and Spa is a unique place with spectacular lake views and a stunning onsen experience. However, the experience is marred by the pervasive smell of smoke in many of the rooms, which detracts from what could be a pleasant stay. The dining options are commendable with excellent buffets, though the room conditions do not match the quality of the common areas. It's definitely a family-friendly spot, especially for those who enjoy water park fun, but be cautious about room selections.

Rooms

The rooms felt quite dated and had a musty smell, making it uncomfortable at times. The air conditioning didn't work well, causing the room to be warm and stuffy. The small window was also problematic, especially since we traveled with a toddler.
Service

Service was a mixed bag; while some staff were helpful, there were moments of confusion and a lack of friendliness from others. The language barrier could be a challenge.

The hotel offers stunning views of Lake Toya, especially from the outdoor onsen, which I absolutely loved. The quick check-in and availability of a good range of amenities were positive aspects, but my experience was marred by the unpleasant smell of cigarette smoke in my room. The noise level during dinner buffet was also quite disruptive. Overall, it's a mixed experience with great views, but some serious drawbacks.

Rooms
5.0
Unfortunately, the rooms were old and dilapidated, with a persistent smell of smoke despite requesting non-smoking. The state of the bathroom was particularly disappointing.
Service

The service experience was a bit of a struggle, especially with language barriers. Although some staff were accommodating, the communication was often frustrating due to the lack of English speakers.

The dining experience was quite good, with a wide variety of food options. However, the noise during the dinner buffet made it less enjoyable.

The facilities were decent, with the onsen being a standout feature, but overall, the hotel felt dated and in need of refurbishment.

I had a fantastic experience at Toya Sunpalace! The view of Lake Toya from the lobby was just beautiful, even in the chilly winter weather. The buffet was spectacular, offering a diverse range of dishes. However, the limited English-speaking ability among staff made some communication tricky. Also, while the room was spacious, it lacked a bit in modernity, which was a slight drawback.
